Picture the scene, Idle Surge had just lost their second guitarist, the second one to leave in 12 months...at least this time the bassist didn't go with him. So the dilemma was this - spend another few months recruiting a new guitarist who wanted to play, but not necessarily gig a huge amount, get up to speed on the 20 track set list and then not leave a few months later.

A dilemma indeed, so the decision was made, unilaterally, to sack it off - having run the band for a couple of years it was a bit fatiguing and a break was needed from it all.

Step forward Impure Caoss!

Since spending some time in the studio with Idle Surge (you can see on the music page what we'd been up to, it's down the bottom of the page) I got a bit of an interest in the whole production and recording lark. I'd dabbled with Pro Tools in the past but it went completely over my head, I found it difficult (well maybe not difficult but certainly more annoying than it probably should be - might say more about me than it does about Pro Tools)...I then messed about with Cubase and Reaper with neither of them clicking with me. Then I had Presonus Studio One recommended to me and found that to be virtually idiot proof and this is a special kind of idiot.

Carolyn and I both enjoyed being in the band and making music so didn't want to lose that, but being in a band is a pain in the arse at times and to not have that made things a lot more fun. So armed with a lot of enthusiasm, a little bit of knowledge on recording and producing and bit of a talent we set off on our recording odyssey...

I wish I'd started this Blog a while ago as it would've been good to keep track of the songs and the technical aspects in case I needed to go back and rerecord some extra bits (it happens more than I'd like to admit).

But that's what I'll be doing from here on - songs we're recording, why those songs, instruments used, plug ins and all that. Sound good? Great!
